Communist Party of India (CPI) leader C Divakaran on Sunday clarified his stand on Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s comments about his special food preferences, saying the statement was made only in “good humour”. He also said that the media should not create unnecessary controversy on the issue.

‘In good humour’: CPI leader on Kerala CM’s food choiceHe also said that he was just sharing his experience and not to create controversy for his comments.

The CPI leader said in an interview with a local newspaper that CM Vijayan has always been “very particular about food, especially fish”. He also claimed that the Chief Minister skips lunch while serving fish, which he dislikes.

“He doesn’t like ordinary fish. He likes A-quality, first-class fish,” he added.

He also claimed that the Chief Minister had once left a rally without having lunch for the kind of fish served at the residence of late CPI(M) leader Anathalabattam Anandan in Thiruvananthapuram district.

The next day, Diwakaran asked local leaders to arrange “good quality mackerel” for lunch. ”

“Anyway, lunch was served and among the items were fish fry. He (Vijayan) came and checked the fish. He ate and was very happy,” Dibakaran said.

The CPI leader also shared that CM Vijayan “didn’t fancy” Anandan as the latter had close ties with VS Achuthanandan, a leader against whom the CM had led a long factional clash within the party.

CPI(M) leader V Shivankutty said there is no need to debate one’s personal food preferences.
