Even as the Twisha Sharma case continues to highlight dowry-related abuses, a 25-year-old woman from New Delhi died by suicide, with the family accusing her husband and in-laws of dowry harassment.

The newly married woman died by suicide after jumping from the fourth floor of a building in northeast Delhi’s Mustafaabad area, police told news agency PTI on Tuesday.
The incident occurred on Monday. According to police, the woman was immediately taken to a nearby hospital after she fell, where doctors declared her dead.
Married 3 months ago
Initial investigations revealed that the woman married a man of her choice nearly three months ago. However, her family claimed that the situation inside the marital home changed within weeks of the marriage.

The family members claimed that about a month after the wedding, the husband and his relatives allegedly started demanding money and gold. They further claimed that the woman was facing constant psychological harassment due to these demands.

According to the family, the psychological stress caused by the alleged harassment has severely affected them in recent weeks.
A police officer confirmed the incident and said legal action was being taken in this regard. The authorities are currently investigating the allegations made by the woman’s family and studying the circumstances that led to her death.
In recent days, several dowry-related deaths have been reported in parts of India.
Greater Noida foal death
On May 21, police arrested two more people in connection with the death of a 24-year-old woman who allegedly fell to her death from the third-floor balcony of her in-laws’ home. The victim’s family alleged that she was being harassed over dowry, and police had earlier arrested the husband and her father-in-law from Greater Noida.
Delhi dowry death case
A Delhi court has acquitted a man accused of dowry murder and cruelty for his wife’s suicide in 2015, citing lack of reliable evidence and adverse testimonies from key prosecution witnesses.
Dowry death case in Chandigarh
The dowry-related harassment and repeated demands for money allegedly started soon after Amandeep Kaur (32), a resident of Chandigarh, and Gagandeep Singh Virk got married in December 2018. According to the FIR, the husband wanted to move from Canada to the US and demanded money from Amandeep and her family to facilitate the relocation, while she wished to continue living in Canada.
