Kiren Rijiju shared what he described as an “illegal video” recorded by a Congress MP; Rejecting the minister’s demand, Priyanka said there was no abuse

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju On Thursday, he posted what he described as “illegal video recorded by Congress MP” on his X handle and alleged that Congress MPs had entered Lok Sabha Speaker on BirlaIts chamber, “abused him” and “threatened” Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi denied the allegations.

(Photo by Rahul Singh/ANI)”We did not abuse anyone. One or two MPs were agitated, and they expressed it. He also said that I was encouraging them, which is false. I was sitting quietly. Finally, I said a few things peacefully,” said Priyanka.

In his post on X with an eight-second clip, Rijiju said: “This is an illegal video clip taken by a Congress MP when 20-25 Congress MPs entered the chamber of the Hon’ble Speaker, abused him and threatened the Hon’ble Prime Minister. Our party believes in debate and discussion and never encourages physical threats to MPs.”

The episode is the latest episode in the ongoing conflict between the BJP-led NDA government and the Congress-led opposition in the budget session of Parliament.

Rijiju had initially alleged on Wednesday that Congress members barged into the Speaker’s chamber and abused him. He also said that Om Birla was “deeply hurt” and that he had spoken to him personally.

He referred to disputes in the House over permission to speak. He said that after the Speaker issued the rule, it was not obeyed. He claimed that Rahul Gandhi had said that he did not need anyone’s permission to speak and he would speak as he pleased.

“Without the chair’s permission, members cannot speak in the House. Even the prime minister speaks only with the chair’s permission. Everyone speaks with permission,” Rijiju said.

Reacting to Rijiju’s comments, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also targeted the government over the India-US agreement. “The trade deal they’ve signed is going to hurt farmers a lot. All of it Labor unions are on strike todayand we are supporting them,” he told reporters.

Commenting on the BJP’s plans against his brother, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, he said such a move would not deter him. “They will not file FIRs, cases and anything against Rahul Gandhi, but nothing will affect him,” he said.

The BJP plans to move a motion in the House seeking disqualification of Rahul Gandhi and further banning him from contesting elections for “misleading Parliament”.

Rijiju specifically objected to Rahul Gandhi leaving the House during the debate on the Union Budget 2026-27.

Rahul sought to quote from an unpublished book by former army chief General MM Naravane, saying it “exposes” the Modi government’s “misbehaviour” on the China border issue in 2020. The government disputed this.
