What the woman suspected was a routine Sunday evening conversation quickly turned into tragedy. At around 5pm, 28-year-old Nikhil was talking to his girlfriend on WhatsApp, news agency PTI said, citing local authorities.

According to police, Nikhil hanged himself while he was still making the call, with his girlfriend witnessing the act in real time.

A five-year relationship under pressure

Nikhil, a resident of Jawahar Colony, was in a relationship with a woman from Sanjay Colony for about five years. The report said that the relationship developed to the point of discussing marriage, and the two families participated in the talks.

However, things have taken a turn recently. Police said the woman had been refusing to marry him for some time, a development that caused Nikhil great psychological distress.

Frantic calls for help

As the incident occurred via video call, the woman immediately reached out to Nikhil’s friends, alerting them of what had just happened.

They rushed to his house, but when they arrived, it was too late. Nikhil is found dead inside his room.

Police said Nikhil was alone in the house at the time.

According to the police version, Nikhil’s father had died a few years ago and his mother was away in Ujjain when the accident happened.

As soon as she was informed, the police arrived at the scene, seized the body and sent it to Badshah Khan Hospital for autopsy.

“The incident is being investigated in detail,” a senior police officer said.
