Assistant sub-inspector Vinod Kumar, the investigating officer, said Priyanshu called a friend between 6:30 pm and 7 pm on Wednesday and asked him to visit his room later in the night and said the door would be unlocked.

However, when the friend arrived at around 11:15 p.m., he found the door locked from the inside. Despite repeated blows, there was no response.

As suspicion grew, the friend alerted students in an adjacent room. Looking through an open back window, they discovered Priyanshu hanging from the ceiling fan. The police and institute authorities were immediately informed.
