In a shocking incident in Mumbai, a video clip went viral in which an auto driver made obscene remarks and harassed a female passenger. The incident quickly went viral on social media, with many tagging the Mumbai Police and urging strict action

In the video, the car driver can be heard telling the woman: “Pe**s ekdum strong ho gaya hai, aap khud dekhiye, ek baar haath lagakar dekho.”

The video clip, which the woman posted on Instagram, shows her getting out of the car quickly after making these statements.

She also tagged Mumbai Police, and soon many netizens did so on X and Instagram.

Questions about women’s safety

The video received a lot of attention as many expressed their shock and disbelief about the harassment taking place in Mumbai, which is often considered a safe city for women.

“This is shocking, Mumbai is supposed to be the safest city for females in India,” one user wrote on X.

“What nonsense is happening in Mumbai. Will [Mumbai Police] Take any action against this moron?” another user on X asked.

In 2025, according to the National Annual Report and Women’s Safety Index (NARI), Mumbai is ranked among the safest cities for women.

Kohima, Vishakhapatnam, Bhubaneswar, Aizawl, Gangtok, Itanagara and Mumbai “top national safety rankings, often associated with high gender equality, infrastructure, policing, or civic engagement,” the report said.

The police begin investigation

Mumbai Police said on Sunday that it had launched an investigation into the incident. In response to the viral post on X, police have requested contact details for the investigation.

Many netizens also jumped in by revealing the license plate number visible to them in the video, demanding strict action against the driver.

H.T. contacted the woman who was harassed; But she did not want to comment and asked to remain anonymous.
