A day after a massive dust storm plunged parts of Rajasthan into darkness, the Meteorological Department issued another dust storm warning with gusty winds of up to 90 km per hour over the northwestern and central parts of the country.

Rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds will also affect Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttarakhand, while parts of Rajasthan are under dust storm and thunderstorm warnings. The IMD in its forecast for May 31, 2026 said that hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may witness hailstorms.

The Meteorological Department forecast calls for a thunderstorm with wind speeds likely to reach 70 kmph over Delhi on May 31. Lightning and gusty winds (up to 50 kmph) are also expected over Delhi between June 1 and 4.
IMD forecast shows a thunderstorm over parts of Rajasthan on May 31 with wind speed reaching 70-80 kmph. A dust storm is also expected to hit isolated places. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, with speeds reaching 40-50 km per hour, will continue over Rajasthan during the next seven days.

Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Vidarbha are expected to experience rain and thunderstorms, along with thunderstorms in Vidarbha and western Madhya Pradesh. Heavy rains and isolated hailstorms are also likely in Gujarat, Konkan, Goa and Maharashtra.
The Meteorological Department advised residents to stay in their homes during thunderstorms, avoid flooded areas, and take the necessary precautions against heat waves. Farmers were urged to protect crops from heavy rains and hail, and ensure adequate water supply for livestock.
