A man in Gujarat had a close call when the elevator he was using in a residential society suddenly went up as he was getting out. A video of the incident also spread on social media.

The incident reportedly took place in Sabarmati Building, Sardar Heights, where Vatsal Panchal, a resident of the ninth floor, narrowly escaped death (X).
The incident reportedly took place in Sabarmati Building, Sardar Heights, where Vatsal Panchal, a resident of the ninth floor, narrowly escaped death (X).

The video shows a man entering the elevator and pressing the ground floor button. Then he leans against the elevator doors, waiting for them to open. After about 35 seconds, the elevator door opens, and he tries to get out. However, the elevator is moving quickly upwards the moment he exits, and he almost fails to fall into the gap between the floor and the elevator.

The video is from a CCTV camera in a community and raises concerns about the maintenance of escalators in an apartment building.

The Times Of India reported that the incident occurred in the Sabarmati building in Sardar Heights, where Vatsal Panchal, a resident living on the ninth floor, narrowly escaped death.

Panchal reportedly suffered minor head injuries after colliding with the upper part of the entrance but was declared out of danger.

Following the accident, technicians were called, and initial results revealed that the elevator malfunctioned due to a driving error. Due to a driving error, the escalator started moving even when the doors were open.

According to the report, authorities have launched a special inspection operation across the Sardar Heights campus, which has 36 elevators. The elevators were installed in 2016 and have been in regular use since residents began occupying the apartments in 2019.

The campus includes 18 buildings, each with a larger elevator and one passenger elevator. The report said that the 14-storey complex includes five towers, each containing 59 apartments, and 13 towers, each containing 119 apartments.

In a similar incident last year, three people were injured when the lift in a Noida housing society broke down and hit the roof of the upper floor. According to reports, the incident occurred at Tower 5 of Paras Tierra Society in Sector 137 in Noida.

There were three people inside, including two women, when the accident occurred. All three were injured
