Petrol and diesel prices were increased in major metro cities again on Tuesday. State-run oil marketing companies revised prices upward for the second time in less than a week. in Delhi, petrol has become more expensive $0.87 per liter, while the price of diesel increased $0.91 per litre.
Latest review follows $3 per liter per”>increase $3 per liter on both fuels last week.
Despite the previous rise, oil marketing companies are still incurring losses of approximately $750 Crores per day on sale of petrol, diesel and Liquefied petroleum gas, according to an official at the Ministry of Oil.

This comes days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for conservation of fuel and foreign exchange. The appeal also included a push for work-from-home arrangements in certain sectors.
Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had earlier indicated that a revision in fuel prices was a possibility. Speaking at a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) event, he said the government would eventually need to take a decision on revising petrol and diesel prices.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had earlier said that prices would rise further in the coming days. He alleged that the BJP-led government kept fuel prices low during the elections and is now passing on the burden of inflation to the citizens. Mann also accused the Center of hiding the true state of the economy and demanded disclosure of India’s oil, gas and gold reserves.
He described the situation as an “unannounced lockdown,” said citizens were bearing the impact of rising prices, and claimed that the government was misleading the public about economic conditions.
