Four people died in the last 48 hours after consuming adulterated milk offered by an unauthorized seller here in East Godavari district, police said on Monday.
While two people died on Sunday, two more died today.
“Four people died in the last two days after consuming adulterated milk provided by an unauthorized vendor in the city,” Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), North Zone Y Srikanth, Rajamahendravaram, told PTI.
He added that preliminary investigations indicate that the contaminated milk caused kidney failure, which led to sudden obstruction of the urethra and death.
All four victims had purchased milk from the same local vendor who was supplying it to families in Rajamahendravaram.
The DSP added that the vendor obtained milk from nearly 40 local livestock and farmers before distributing it to families.
Food safety officials collected milk samples and sent them to various laboratories for examination, while multiple teams conducted field inspections and medical monitoring in the neighbourhoods.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu held a review meeting on Monday following the deaths reported at Rajamahndravaram.
An official statement said district officials briefed him on the medical assistance provided and arrangements, including field level camps and medical camps for rapid testing in the affected areas.
The Prime Minister directed the officials to ensure the best medical care for patients undergoing treatment.
Officials informed Naidu that milk was provided to 106 families and samples were collected from 75 people.
The Prime Minister ordered strict action against the vendors.
