JAJPUR, May 4, 2019 (Xinhua) At least five people, including two women, were killed and seven others injured when the SUV they were traveling in collided with a truck in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Monday, police said.

The accident occurred near Bardi Chak on Dhitari-Paradip highway under Jinapur police station limits in Jajpur district.

According to police, 12 people, including three women and two children, were returning home in a car after attending a wedding in Keonjhar.

The SUV collided with a truck from behind. The impact of the collision caused the SUV to remain under the truck, police said.

Five people riding in the SUV were killed instantly, while seven others were seriously injured.

The injured were taken to Dharmasala and Badashana Community Health Centers for treatment. Later, all of them were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack after their condition deteriorated.

The police took the bodies to the local government hospital for post-mortem examination.

Nirupama Jena, inspector-in-charge of Jinapur police station, said the victims, from Purusutampur-Sanjaya Nagar village, were returning home after attending a wedding in Keonjhar.

The truck fled the scene after the accident. The police began investigating the incident after registering a case.
