As part of the EU’s engagement with Indian political parties, EU heads of mission held a lunch meeting with senior Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Salman Khurshid, where the two sides discussed the “burgeoning EU-India strategic partnership”, and the evolving Indian and global geopolitical dynamics, EU envoy Hervé Delphine said on Thursday.

In a post on X, Delphine also shared some photos of the meeting he attended, among others.

“As part of our engagement with Indian political parties, the EU Presidents had lunch with Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and Congress External Affairs Chief @salman7khurshid. We discussed the thriving strategic partnership between the EU and India, and the evolving Indian and global geopolitical dynamics,” the EU delegation’s ambassador to India posted.

EU-India relations have seen new momentum in recent months, with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa attending the 77th Republic Day celebrations on January 26, marking the occasion as chief guests.

India and the 27-nation bloc had declared the conclusion of negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) on January 27, which has been described as the “mother of all deals”.

At the Europe Day celebrations held in Delhi earlier this month, Delphine said the EU-India partnership is “boundless, ambitious and progressive” and the two sides have taken the relationship to a “completely new level” both qualitatively and strategically.
