Shocking allegations have emerged in the mysterious death of a 28-year-old newlywed woman in Delhi’s Lodhi Colony, with her family alleging repeated harassment and demanding dowry after what they said was a “love marriage”.

Police said on Sunday that the woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances outside the government staff quarters – New Delhi Municipal Council residential apartments – in Palika Kunj on Saturday evening. She was found in a critical condition outside the government staff quarters, after which she was shifted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where doctors declared her brought dead, HT reported earlier.
While the police have not yet been able to determine how the deceased arrived at the NDMC housing complex or what led to her death, her family has claimed that she was either killed or pushed to her death due to constant torture at the hands of her husband and in-laws.

According to investigators, she fell from the third floor of a building in the complex.
The 28-year-old married a 30-year-old sales executive from Chhatarpur on April 24, 2026. Her in-laws reside in Pushp Vihar, while her family lives in Sangam Vihar.
Shocking allegations about the death of a bride
- I was going to my husband’s house: The woman had left her mother’s house on Saturday for work. At about six o’clock that evening, she spoke to her mother and told her that she was on her way to her husband’s house. But she was found dead outside the government staff quarters in Palika Kunj, which is about 9 to 10 km from her husband’s house in Pushp Vihar. Investigators said it was unclear why she went to the NDMC housing complex instead. CCTV footage from the area is being examined, they said, adding that residents of the area are also being questioned to trace the woman’s movements before the death.
- car and $10 thousand: While the case has not yet been declared a murder or suicide, the family of the deceased has alleged that she was suffering from repeated physical abuse and dowry demands from her husband and in-laws. The woman’s uncle claimed that the family requested a car and $10 thousand after “love marriage”. According to her uncle, her in-laws, despite knowing about the family’s financial situation, continued to demand money. Her uncle added: “He (the husband) was beating her and harassing her for the dowry. We cannot believe that she committed suicide. Either she was killed, or she was pushed to do so because of the constant psychological torture.”
- The husband wants her full salary: Since her father’s death five years ago, the deceased woman had been the sole breadwinner for her family, and she wanted to continue supporting her mother even after marriage. Her relatives also claimed that her husband was initially against her work. However, he later began insisting that she give him her entire salary. Because she wanted to continue sending $She paid 5,000 pounds a month to her mother, and often argued with her husband.
- The great battle the day before death: The deceased’s uncle also claimed that just a day before her death, she and her husband had a big fight over her salary and her desire to send money to her mother. Her uncle also expressed his regret that he did not take her concerns seriously enough. He added: “I regret that when she told us about the harassment, we asked her to adapt and return to her husband. We wish we had brought her back.”
- The brother does not think about suicide: The deceased’s younger brother believes that his sister “will never take her life,” which raises doubts about whether this was a suicide, a murder, or whether there is another truth. He asked the police to register a case against his brother-in-law and in-laws.
While the husband refused to speak to the media, the police said they are verifying the allegations made by the deceased woman’s family, adding that the exact cause and circumstances of her death will be determined after the body is examined and investigated.
