Tiruvallur, AIADMK chief Edappadi K Palaniswami asked people not to compare actor-politician Vijay with AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran and pointed out that the late CM was far superior as he lived and served people in his lifetime and left his properties to the deaf and dumb.

He also took shots at Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, saying one requires “dignity and discipline” in criticizing others and claimed that he belongs to the “political school” of MGR and late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
Addressing an election rally here on Friday, the AIADMK general secretary said MGR is “God” and hence should not be compared with Vijay, who heads the nascent Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam.
“Don’t compare him with MGR, who is a god. MGR spent the money he earned from acting in films for the people and always strived hard for the welfare of the people in his life. After his death, he donated his property to the deaf and mute. This excellent man is our leader,” Palaniswami said, and the crowd responded with thunderous applause.
“Is it so?” he asked. “For me or for the AIADMK, anyone can enter politics in a democratic state. It is their right. But after entering politics, they should not let down the people who depend on them, they should face problems.”
Palaniswami said that he faced many problems from the day he took over as chief minister until the end of his term. He added that he had to face problems caused by drought, cyclones, floods and pandemic when people were unable to leave their homes.
“During these difficult times, you have exercised good governance without causing hardship to the people,” Palaniswami said.
When a party member showed a picture of Udayanidhi Stalin, Palaniswami said: “Show it. He will be upset if you show it.”
He emphasized that there is a difference between AIADMK and DMK. “We are students of MGR and Jayalalithaa’s political school. There is a dire need for dignity and discipline. Our priority is the welfare of the people.”
