The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has initiated feasibility studies and prepared a detailed project report (DPR) for a network of elevated corridors, tunnels and road redesign linking Saket, Sangam Vihar, Khanpur, Pul, Prahladpur and Badarpur.

The proposal includes an elevated corridor of approximately 5 km from Sangam Vihar to Ma Anandamayi Marg, as well as another 1.1 km elevated stretch from Pul Prahladpur towards Badarpur. (HT archive)

The proposed project aims to improve connectivity between Sangam Vihar, Saket, Khanpur, Ma Anandamayi Marg, Pul Prahladpur and Badarpur — stretches that witness heavy congestion on a daily basis due to dense residential clusters, roadside parking and increased vehicular pressure, an official said.

This could improve daily commutes on the heavily congested Mehrauli-Badarpur (MB) road in South Delhi in the coming years.

Dubai Tourism District and the feasibility exercise for the proposed traffic overhaul – which includes elevated roads, tunnels, subways and redesigned extensions – are expected to be completed within four months. The consultancy work to prepare Dubai Tourism District has been estimated at approx. $1.47 lakh crore, while the elevated corridor and larger six-lane tunnel project is planned at an estimated cost of Rs 1.47 lakh crore. $1,471 Crores.

He said the project is being planned as an integrated corridor alongside the existing and proposed Delhi Metro infrastructure to reduce land use and improve traffic movement on one of the busiest arterial routes in South Delhi.

The proposal includes an elevated corridor of approximately 5 km from Sangam Vihar to Ma Anandamayi Marg, as well as another 1.1 km elevated stretch from Pul Prahladpur towards Badarpur.

An additional 1.9 km section between Maa Anandmayee Marg and Pul Prahladpur will be redesigned under Unified Traffic and Transport Infrastructure Center (Planning and Engineering) (UTTIPEC) compliant street planning standards, the official said.

He said the alignment is expected to connect key intersections and densely populated areas along MB Road, including Saket G-Block, Ambedkar Nagar, Khanpur and Pul Prahladpur, while also integrating with existing flyovers and metro corridors in the area.

He said the project will include elevated roads, underpasses, subways and tunnel components aimed at reducing congestion and ensuring smoother traffic flow for commuters between South Delhi and Badarpur border.

“The current road capacity is insufficient to meet traffic demand,” a PWD official said earlier, adding that the project aims to ensure free flow of traffic, reduce travel time, prevent traffic jams, and save fuel consumption.

According to the DMRC, the consultant will conduct traffic volume surveys, origin and destination studies, parking assessments and road safety audit before finalizing the proposal. Detailed plans for pedestrian movement, parking management, service routes and multimodal integration around metro stations will also be prepared.

DPR will additionally study land acquisition requirements, utility diversion, environmental impact, tree plantation and integrate with agencies like National Highways Authority of India, Delhi Development Authority, Delhi Urban Arts Commission and UTTIPEC.

In March, the Delhi government approved the MB Road elevated corridor project and engaged DMRC to implement the proposed six-lane elevated road and tunnels at an estimated cost. $1,471 Crores.

The proposal includes an elevated stretch from Saket G-Block to Sangam Vihar and another corridor from Maa Anandmayee Marg to Pul Prahladpur. The construction of an approximately 2.48 km long, six-lane elevated bridge over the Delhi Metro underpass is also planned in the second phase.

The PWD is separately studying the feasibility of constructing a new road connecting Maa Anandmayee Marg with Harkesh Nagar Metro station under the metro bridge.
