Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Thiru Vi Ka Nagar candidate KS Ravinchandran on Wednesday described the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) as a “little baby’s party” during an election campaign in Pulinthope ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.

He also enjoyed breakfast at a convenience store eating with local residents and canvassing, and engaged closely with the public in an effort to shore up public support as part of the campaign.

Leaders and cadres of alliance partners, including the Indian National Congress, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) and Communist Party of India (CPI), were also present during the campaign.

Public support for the DMK is strong, Ravinchandran said, adding that people are welcoming the party with smiles and asserting their votes. He expressed confidence that opposition parties like AIADMK and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) would lose their deposits in the constituency.

He said that the social welfare schemes implemented under Prime Minister MK Stalin are clearly visible at the ground level.

While researching TVK, Ravinchandran described it as a “baby’s party”, pointing out that although it is only two years old, the DMK has a legacy spanning over 75 years, and alleged that TVK is trying to compare itself with the DMK just to attract attention rather than votes.

Earlier in the day, DMK chief MK Stalin claimed that the BJP-led Central government’s policies like One Nation, One Election, GST and constituency reshuffle pose a “threat” to the state’s rights, and that “only the DMK can stop them”.

The DMK chief also highlighted the government’s schemes and alleged that the AIADMK has “destroyed” Tamil Nadu.

“Palaniswami said he joined the BJP to cover up his mistakes. The BJP did not undertake any major project for Tamil Nadu and the bridge built near Chidambaram was damaged due to poor quality. The Dravidian 2.0 model government should be reconstituted. The DMK was able to fulfill its promises. Welfare schemes like free electricity and free bus travel for women will be stopped if the NDA comes to power. Central government policies like One Nation elections, CM Stalin said that increasing GST and constituency reshuffle are a threat to state rights, and only the DMK can stop them.

Polling for the one-phase Tamil Nadu Assembly elections is scheduled to be held on April 23, while the counting of votes will take place on May 4.

The main contest is expected to be between the Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) led by the DMK, which includes the Indian National Congress, DMDK and VCK, and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the AIADMK with allies of the BJP and PMK. Actor-turned-politician Vijay is also set to make his election debut with TVK, which could turn the contest into a three-way battle.
