As counting of votes continues in four states, besides the union territory of Puducherry, Tamil Nadu’s numbers so far have been nothing short of a surprise as actor and politician Vijay Tamilaja Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) made a stellar debut, threatening the incumbent DMK government.

What we know about the victim
The victim was identified as K. Mahendran, 28, is a resident of Krishnagiri district. Times Of India I mentioned. Police were quoted as saying that Mahendran was apparently distressed by Vijay’s “defeat” when he slit his throat outside his home on Monday morning.
The report quoted a police officer as saying that onlookers rescued him and took him to the Government Medical College and Krishnagiri Hospital, where he is receiving intensive treatment.
The debut of TVK came as a shock to the DMK
Vijay’s TVK made a stellar debut in Tamil Nadu as it overtook MK Stalin’s DMK which was in the faltering third position with a lead in the 20s, according to trends around 12 noon on Friday, as shown by analytics portal PValue.
Despite the big show by TVK, prevailing trends show a ‘rejuvenated’ AIADMK maintaining its footing. As the counting of votes progressed into the afternoon for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami widened his lead to 17,766 votes in his Edappadi constituency, retaining his status as the party’s safest candidate, news agency PTI reported.

Vijay, popularly known as Thalapathy, entered politics in 2024 after the launch of TVK and has since made it clear that he will contest the elections on his own.
In the run-up to the elections, the actor-politician described it as a “democratic battle” and not just an electoral contest. TVK “will never compromise our politics for anyone or anything,” he said.
Earlier, there were reports that the BJP was pressuring TVK ahead of the Assembly elections. However, Vijay rejected the allegations. Later in February, the party made it clear that it would not enter into an alliance with the BJP despite mounting pressure.

On the day of the vote counting (Monday), TVK spokesman Felix Gerald said the party was confident of forming government on its own in the state, with early trends pointing to a historic debut.
“DMK was running in a dark room, now they know the truth, TVK will form a government on its own,” he said.
TVK has so far ruled out any possibility of alliance with either party in the state, and hopes to form the government on its own.
