An 11-year-old girl was kidnapped, sexually assaulted and murdered by a taxi driver on Monday. Police said the incident occurred in the Mehrauli area of south Delhi.

The police said that the deceased was homeless and sleeping on the sidewalk with her family members when the accused kidnapped her. Police said the driver was arrested.
According to the police, the minor was kidnapped around 5 a.m. on Monday, and the accused took her to an isolated place where he allegedly raped her.
“We are not sure about the sequence of events. However, it is suspected that the accused later decided to take the minor back to Mehrauli area but after seeing the police, he fled with her,” a senior police official said.

The minor’s parents called Delhi Police around 7 am, police said.
“The girl was alive but he later took her to the forest area in Mehrauli and strangled her to death,” the police official added.
The police said that several teams were pressed into action, and after scanning the CCTV footage, the little girl was spotted with the accused. Police said the man was arrested on Monday evening.
During the investigation, police said that the taxi driver kidnapped the girl and killed her. Her body was found on Faridabad Gurugram Road, police said.
The minor’s body was transferred for autopsy to determine the exact causes of death. According to the police, it was confirmed that the minor had been sexually assaulted before the murder.
