Residents of Delhi woke up to a cooler morning on Tuesday, as rain lashed several parts of the city and neighboring areas such as Noida in Uttar Pradesh, Ghaziabad and Gurugram in Haryana.

More rain is expected during the day, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for thunderstorms and light rain.

Weather in Delhi, NCR today

As per an IMD circular shared at 6 am on Tuesday, light to moderate rain accompanied by light thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds (30-40 km/h) were expected over the course of two hours at many places across Delhi – India Gate, Akshardham, Palam, Safdarjung, Lodhi Road, Nehru Stadium, IGI Airport, Vasant Vihar, RK Puram, Defense Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Vasant Kunj, Hauz Khas, Malviya Nagar, Kalkaji, Mehrauli, Tughlakabad, Chattarpur, Egno, Ayanagar and Dhiramandi.

Similar conditions were expected in parts of the National Capital Region, including Chapraula, Noida, Dadri, Greater Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar and Ballabgarh.

Yellow alert in Delhi

The IMD has issued a yellow alert on Tuesday and Wednesday, forecasting thunderstorms with light rain and gusty winds.

Temperatures are expected to drop further on Wednesday, with a high likely to be 31 degrees Celsius and a low around 20 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures are expected to rise again from April 10.

This shift in weather is due to changing wind patterns and the influence of the Western Disturbances, which are expected to lead to patchy cloud cover and isolated rain across the National Capital Region.

Delhi AQI today

Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘moderate’ category, with the AQI standing at 134 on Tuesday. Forecasts indicate that air quality may remain in the “moderate” category until April 9.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), an AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51-100 ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 ‘moderate’, 201-300 ‘poor’, 301-400 ‘very poor’ and 401-500 ‘severe’.
