The students were seen carrying banners and raising slogans during the demonstration. One sign read, “PhD for sale.” In the pictures shared by news agency ANI, police personnel can also be seen warning the protesters not to move if they fail to disperse.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) had earlier announced the cancellation of the NEET (UG) 2026 exam, which was conducted on May 3, saying the exam would be conducted again on dates to be announced separately.

The NTA further said that a comprehensive investigation into the allegations linked to the exam will be conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The NTA said in a statement that the decision was taken in the interest of maintaining transparency and maintaining confidence in the national examination system.

“On the basis of inputs subsequently examined by NTA in coordination with central agencies, and investigation findings shared by law enforcement agencies, the National Testing Agency, with the approval of the Government of India, has decided to cancel the NEET (UG) 2026 examination conducted on May 3, 2026, and re-conduct the examination on dates to be notified separately,” it said.

She added, “The dates for the re-conducted exams will be announced, along with the schedule for the re-issued admission cards, through the agency’s official channels in the coming days.”

The agency added that it would provide its “full cooperation with the office and provide all materials, records, and assistance required by the investigation.”
