What happened in the previous elections?

V. Sivankutty had earlier won Nemom constituency in the 2011 Kerala Assembly elections as a CPI(M) candidate. He contested again in 2016, polling 59,142 votes but losing to the BJP’s O. Rajagopal by 8,671 votes, the BJP’s first ever win in the Kerala Assembly. He returned to the constituency in the 2021 Assembly elections and won the seat by 55,837 votes, defeating BJP’s Kummanam Rajasekharan by 3,949 votes, while Congress candidate K.K. Muralidharan placed third. His victory helped the Left Democratic Front regain its constituency.

Nemom has historically seen frequent shifts in electoral results, with no candidate securing consecutive terms in recent cycles. In the 2026 Assembly elections, it remains to be seen whether V. Sivankutty was able to break this pattern and retain the constituency.
