NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday told a lawyer, who filed 25 separate PILs on a host of issues, that he should approach the authorities instead of rushing to court.

As soon as the matter was called for hearing, advocate Sachin Gupta, who was personally representing the petitioner, told the bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant that he wanted the PILs withdrawn.
“You should focus on the profession. You should approach the authorities, make them wiser on certain issues instead of rushing to court,” the IJC, which was heading the bench that also included Justices Joymalia Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi, told Gupta.
At the appropriate stage, the court will also consider his petitions, if necessary, the bench said.
Being a member of the Bar and a person with legal knowledge, the petitioner should identify the issues through an analytical approach and try to sensitize the authorities concerned, the CJI said.
The bench said that if nothing happens, the petitioner may approach the court.
The Supreme Court allowed the petitioner to withdraw 25 political laws that were listed for hearing.
The PILs filed by the petitioner sought a range of directions, including formulating a policy to develop the country’s lingua franca for official purposes and formulating a policy to display legal awareness on television to disseminate legal knowledge among the general public.
Prayers made in the PILs included a direction to formulate a policy to issue guidelines on use of chemicals in soaps and allow only those chemicals which kill harmful bacteria and not bacteria which are essential for skin health.
One of the principles of political isolation sought guidance to formulate a policy for the upliftment of disadvantaged groups like beggars, transgenders etc.
On March 9, the Supreme Court dismissed five “frivolous” public interest lawsuits filed by Gupta, including one seeking a scientific study on whether onions and garlic contain “tamasic” energy, and asked whether he formulated them in the middle of the night.
“Petition project Aadhi raat ko yeh sab karte ho kya?” The CJI rebuked him, calling the political impeachment laws “vague, petty and baseless”.
The bench also rejected four other PILs filed by Gupta, including one that sought directions to regulate the alleged harmful content in alcohol and tobacco products.
