Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) chief MK Stalin on Saturday took a jibe at his long-time alliance partner, the Congress, saying he had severed ties with the party in a day and did not come to the party headquarters to express his gratitude after its victory in the April 23 Assembly elections.

“The Congress legislators who won on behalf of the alliance did not come to the DMK headquarters to express their gratitude,” Stalin said. (X/out)

The former Prime Minister lauded the Communist Parties and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) for declaring that they will continue to fight with the DMK to protect the rights and welfare of Tamil Nadu and its people.

“After the election results were announced, you were following the unfolding events. The assembly election results came out in such a way that no party got a majority to form a government,” Stalin said in a social media post.

He asserted that the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance did not get enough seats to form the government, and said, “We got a large number of votes.”

“I have already stated in an interview with the media that we will not be an obstacle to the formation of a new government and that the KDP will work as a constructive opposition party,” he said, citing a media report.

“I said, keeping the interest of the party in mind, I will make a decision after consulting with the executive director of the headquarters,” Stalin said at the meeting of legislators held under his leadership.

He said: “In a situation where no one got a majority to form a government, many people suggested alternative ideas. As far as I was concerned, whatever decision was taken by the allied parties, I intended to respect their decision, work integratedly and ensure the formation of a stable government. My opinion was that we should not pave the way for another election.”

He reiterated comments by alliance partners CPI, CPI(M) and VCK that they are extending support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to avoid a “critical crisis” and will continue to remain under the DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance on a “policy level basis”.

“The Congress legislators who contested and won on behalf of the alliance did not come to Anna Arivalayam (DMK headquarters) to express their gratitude. In a day, he left the Congress party, severing its relationship with the DMK,” he said.

Regarding the announcement by the Left parties and VCK that they would fight alongside the DMK for the rights of Tamil Nadu and the welfare of the people, he said: “This expression of comradery spirit shows their faith in the DMK, which is a strong faith in its principles.”

Stalin also expressed his gratitude to National President Khizr Muhyiddin, Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), Marumalarshi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) chief Vaiko, Disiya Murpukku Dravida Kazhagam general secretary Premalata Vijayakanth, Manithanya Makkal Katchi chief Jawaharullah and others.

“we [DMK] “It has paved the way for every individual to benefit through several schemes,” he said.

“It is my personal wish that the next new government will continue with these schemes that have wise thinking and resourceful planning.” urge.

Stalin stressed that the schemes launched by his party for women, youth, students, children, marginalized people and government employees will continue to be implemented, and the benefits to the people will continue and the country will also grow.

“I ask the new government to work with this in mind. I once again convey my best wishes to the new government that will be formed,” he said.

TVK won 108 seats and needs 118 seats in the 234-seat parliament to form the government. The CPI, CPI(M), which has two seats each, and the Congress, with five seats extended support to the party. The VCK and IUML, which each won two seats in the Assembly elections, under the DMK-led Progressive Secular Alliance, on Saturday extended their “unconditional support” to actor-politician TVK. This brings the total number of lawmakers supporting TVK to 120, making it the majority party to form the government.
