The Congress on Sunday slammed VHP after it wrote to the Ayodhya police over the allegations made by several opposition leaders over alleged theft of donations at the Ram temple, alleging that the organization’s sole aim is to “emotionally mislead the Hindu community” to further its own political interests.

New allegations are surfacing and new evidence is surfacing every day regarding the “theft” of donations at the Ram temple in Ayodhya, said Pawan Khera, chief of the Congress’ media and publicity department.

“Today, Alok Kumar of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) wrote to the investigating officer, asking him to look for evidence of theft from Priyanka Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav and Ram Gopal Yadav,” Khera said in a video statement posted on X.

He said that means one party is committing the theft, while the other is expected to provide evidence.

“The truth is that they have no real intention to catch the thieves. As always, their only aim is to emotionally mislead the Hindu community to advance their political interests,” Khaira said.

Criticizing the VHP, he said they should stop being contractors of the Hindu community.

“They should remove the word Hindu from their organizations and then carry out as many robberies as they want. Don’t spoil the name of the Hindu community and stop running your shops at their expense,” he said.

“Your intention is not to find out about the theft or catch the thieves, but your intention is what it was before the temple was built, which is to arouse the feelings of the Hindu community and then rob them, extract votes from them and now extract notes from them as well,” Khaira said.

He added that if they had to catch the thieves, they would not demand answers from Priyanka Gandhi.

VHP to Ayodhya Police

The VHP has written to the Ayodhya Police, urging them to examine the allegations made by several opposition leaders, including Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and AAP organizer Arvind Kejriwal, regarding the alleged theft of donations at the Ram temple and summon them to prove the allegations.

The RSS has demanded action against them if they are found to have made “wild allegations” aimed at creating and strengthening feelings of “hatred, ill will and enmity”.

In a letter dated July 4 to Ayodhya Deputy Inspector of Police Ashutosh Tiwari, the investigating officer in the case, VHP International President Alok Kumar said the leaders had made specific allegations that were widely circulated across television channels, social media platforms and other electronic media.

VHP urged the investigating officer to contact them to disclose the factual basis of their allegations, the source of their information and any documents or materials supporting them.

Kumar said the leaders had publicly made specific allegations and even attributed specific numbers, including allegations of amounts exceeding their value. $20,000 Crores.

“The allegations made by the above and other persons lead one to believe that they are aware of the facts and circumstances of the case,” the letter said.

Referring to their public statements, Kumar said Priyanka Gandhi wondered whether junior staff alone could turn off CCTV cameras and manipulate shows worth thousands of crores, or whether influential people were involved.

Kejriwal claimed this, Kumar said $Rs 200 crore in cash, along with Lord Ram’s garland, charan paduka, diamonds, jewellery, silver bricks and lamps, were allegedly stolen, questioning the silence of the Uttar Pradesh Police, Emergency Department and CBI.

The letter also referred to public statements allegedly made by Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav and AAP MP Sanjay Singh regarding the “theft” of cash and valuables donated at the temple.

Kumar said that in order to ensure a fair, thorough and impartial investigation, it would be appropriate to request the attendance of the said persons under applicable provisions of law, or otherwise record their statements so that they can disclose the factual basis of their allegations, the source of their information and all other documents or materials in their possession that support these allegations.

“If any of the mentioned persons provide reliable material to support their allegations, it will undoubtedly help the investigating agency in discovering the truth,” the letter said.
