Jaspal Rana, India’s renowned pistol shooter and high-performance coach in the sport of 25m pistol, died on Friday due to complications related to a heart condition.

Rana underwent surgery to place a stent in his heart recently after suffering chest pain and discomfort during the FIFA World Cup in Munich. He died at Max Hospital, Saket.
What did the doctors say?
Dr. Balbir Singh, Head, Cardiac Sciences Group, PanMax and Head of Interventional Cardiology and Electrophysiology Department at Max Super Specialty Hospital, Saket, explained that Rana reached the hospital in a very critical condition after continuing to travel despite suffering from chest pains, according to a statement published by news agency ANI.

“He had a massive heart attack three days ago already. He was traveling and kept having chest pains before reaching the hospital in a very critical condition. The artery responsible for the heart attack was completely blocked,” Dr Singh told ANI. It turned out that his heart’s pumping function was severely weakened, and he was suffering from heart failure.
Prime Minister Modi offers his condolences
Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent his condolence message on the death of the shooting legend.
“I am deeply saddened by the demise of Shri Jaspal Rana Ji. His demise is a huge loss to the world of Indian sports. He brought immense glory to the nation through his extraordinary achievements in shooting,” Prime Minister Modi posted on his official X account.

“His contribution was equally notable as a mentor, where he shaped and guided young athletes with great dedication. His unwavering commitment to excellence, discipline and service to the world of sports has earned him great admiration,” Prime Minister Modi added.
Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also remembered Rana’s contributions to Indian archery.
“I am deeply pained by the demise of Indian shooting legend Shri Jaspal Rana Ji. His remarkable contributions to our nation, as a sports hero and an extraordinary teacher, leave behind an inspiring legacy. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and sports fraternity. Om Shanti,” Mandaviya said.
“I am deeply saddened by the demise of Jaspal Rana ji, an iconic figure of Indian sports and one of our greatest shooting champions,” Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said on Channel X.
“From bringing glory to India on the world stage to nurturing future generations of shooters, his contribution to Indian sports was truly extraordinary. He even entered public service to work in the state of Uttarakhand,” Karji said.
