The Indian National Congress has announced all the names of its candidates for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections, scheduled to be held in two phases – April 23 and April 29. Ballot ballots for the 294-member council are scheduled to be counted on May 4.

The party decided to run in the 2026 elections independently, without forming an alliance with other blocs such as the Left Front. Prominent leaders in the list include former state unit president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who is contesting from Baharampur, and Musim Noor, who is contesting from Malatipur.

“Every ordinary worker is also a senior leader. Anyone contesting from Bhabanipur will be a senior leader for us,” Ghulam Ahmad Mir, AICC in-charge of West Bengal, was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
The decision to contest independently reflects Congress’ shift to a multi-pronged approach, rapidly moving away from the traditional TMC versus BJP dynamic in the state.

“We will contest all 294 National Assembly seats in West Bengal and not leave any of them vacant. This has been the desire of our workers and grassroots in the state since the beginning,” Mir added.
