Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday joined farmers in Amaravati district to celebrate the passage of Andhra Pradesh Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, 2026, in Parliament giving legal backing to Amaravati as the state capital.

“Amaravati’s status as a capital city is now firmly assured, beyond doubt, non-negotiable and immutable. Amaravati cannot be stopped. It is the heart of Andhra Pradesh and the future pride of the nation,” Naidu said in a post on X.
CM Naidu, accompanied by his wife Nara Bhuvaneshwari, senior ministers, and leaders of the Janasena Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), went to Udandarayunipalem village, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone on October 23, 2015 for the capital.
Naidu and his wife offered special prayers at the site where sacred soil and holy water collected during the Amaravati Foundation event were preserved. Vedic scholars blessed the couple on the occasion.
In a symbolic gesture, the Prime Minister prostrated in front of the platform where soil and water were preserved. The couple later participated in the ‘Deepa Aarathi’ ritual.
Several prominent leaders including Ministers P Narayana, Nadendla Manohar, Kinjarapu Atchannaidu and BJP state president PVN Madhav participated in the programme.
Terming the passage of the bill granting legal status to Amaravati a “historic and defining moment” for democracy and public will, Naidu said the development represents a lasting milestone in the history of the state.
Naidu said the history of Amaravati cannot be separated from the sacrifices of nearly 29,000 farmers who voluntarily amassed more than 33,000 acres of land for the capital. “This is not just a political achievement, but a victory for the people and a symbol of Telugu self-respect,” he said.
He thanked the Union government led by Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, along with political parties across the country, for supporting the bill in Parliament. He pointed out that except for the YSR Congress, all parties extended their support to Amaravati.
The Prime Minister also referred to the protracted agitation by farmers and women in the capital region, which has continued for over 1,600 days. He highlighted their steadfastness in opposing attempts to “weaken” Amaravati and credited their unity for securing the future of the capital.
Emphasizing his government’s commitment, Naidu said Amaravati would emerge as an “unstoppable world-class capital” and promised to embrace the best global development models. He also emphasized balanced development in all regions of the country.
Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, state IT Minister Nara Lokesh said the passage of the bill in Parliament was a major victory for the people of Andhra Pradesh. “In the past 20 months, a lot of confusion and panic arose among farmers, making them feel that they would have to struggle again. Now this confusion has been removed,” he said.
He further stressed that the development will bring a sense of security and accelerate the growth of Amaravati. “All major projects – roads, secretariat, council and high court – have been resumed and we are committed to completing them within the promised timeline,” he said.
Lokesh appealed to all sections of the people to celebrate this occasion by lighting lamps in front of their homes and taking selfies with their lamps.
