A six-year-old boy was killed and four others injured after a 21-year-old Class 12 student rammed his vehicle into an autorickshaw and pedestrians while returning from a farewell party in Lucknow’s Banthra area on Thursday evening.

According to preliminary investigation, police said the speeding Swift car rammed an autorickshaw before plowing into people walking along the road near a Hanuman temple around 6 pm. The injured are Arman (12), Avadh Bihari (42), Sadhana Verma (35), Meena Devi (60) and 6-year-old Dikshant Patel.

The critically injured six-year-old boy was referred to another medical center where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment, police added.

ACP (Krishna Nagar) Rajneesh Verma told PTI that the driver, identified as Gaurav Singh, has been taken into custody and an FIR has been lodged against him for reckless driving and endangering life.
