The Ayodhya Police on Thursday recovered new money $45,000 pounds in cash, gold jewellery, a car, a high-end mobile phone and land-related documents were recovered during searches linked to the embezzlement of donations at the Ram temple, officials familiar with the investigation said, on the second day of custodial interrogation of three prime accused.

The searches formed part of the ongoing 40-hour police detention of Lakush Mishra, Anukalp Mishra and Karunesh Pandey, three of the eight accused who were arrested on June 26.

Police officers familiar with the investigation said the investigators recovered $$35,000 in cash and a gold necklace engraved with Lafkush’s name, which he allegedly bought for his wife from websites linked to him. At a residence linked to Anukalp, Lavkush’s brother-in-law, investigators found a gold necklace, a car and a sophisticated mobile phone. The police suspect that these assets may have been obtained from the alleged proceeds of embezzled donations and are investigating the source of their funding.

The investigators recovered $10,000 in cash from the premises linked to Karunesh Pandey, while collecting financial and documentary evidence for forensic examination.

Meanwhile, the Ram temple administration on Thursday deactivated the digital IDs of former Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra general secretary Champat Rai, former trustee Anil Mishra and former temple administrator Gopal Rao. These IDs can no longer be used to issue darshan passes.
