Roads and railway lines are cut, and local residents are demanding justice

“Local residents went on a rampage around 11 am when the body was recovered and assaulted four people on suspicion of committing the crime,” said a police officer in Baruipur, requesting anonymity.

“Residents also blocked roads and the local railway line demanding justice for the victim and attacked police and central paramilitary personnel who tried to remove the barricades,” the officer said.

He added, “A number of police personnel were injured in stone throwing, and one of them was transferred from Baruipur Hospital to Kolkata to receive treatment.”

South Bengal Inspector General of Police Kankar Prasad Barwe along with a team rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

“We told the victim’s family that none of them will be spared. All those involved in the crime will be arrested. Investigation has begun,” Barui said.

The victim’s body was taken to Baruipur Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari inquired about the situation and spoke to the victim’s father over phone.

The victim’s father said, “The chief minister assured me that the culprits will be arrested and punished. I demanded that they be executed. He asked me to go to Bhabani Bhawan (headquarters of the state CID) on Tuesday. I am satisfied with the administration.”
