The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday released the third list of its candidates for the upcoming assembly elections in West Bengal. Among those named in the third list is also the mother of medical college student RJ Kar, who was raped and murdered. She has been sent from Panihati constituency.

The BJP has named 19 candidates in its latest list for the assembly elections to 294 seats in West Bengal.
Elections in West Bengal are scheduled to be held in two phases on April 23 and 29, with votes to be counted on May 4.
“Join BJP to oust TMC”
Before announcing the third list of BJP candidates, the mother of the RG Kar Medical College rape victim said that she was in talks with the BJP to contest the upcoming elections, and that she was initially hesitant but eventually joined the party to “oust” the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress.
“It was not a last-minute decision. From the beginning, they were telling us, but I was not ready. But then I realized that for the safety and security of women, and the corruption that has spread in every aspect of Bengal, no one is happy, and in order to oust the TMC, I joined the BJP,” she told reporters, as quoted in an Indian Express report.
