BJP national president Nitin Nabin, Union Minister Ram Nath Thakur and senior Congress leader Abhishek Sanghvi, along with 13 newly-elected Rajya Sabha MPs, took oath of office on Thursday.
Vice President of India and Chairman of Rajya Sabha C P Radhakrishnan administered oath to the 16 elected/re-elected members of Rajya Sabha, representing Bihar, Assam, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Telangana.
Of the 16 MPs, eight are from the Bharatiya Janata Party and three are from its allies. The other five representatives belong to Congress.
After being elected as the national president of the BJP, Nabin moved to the Senate after resigning from the Bihar Legislative Council.
He took the oath in Hindi amid the bombing of the offices.
Union Minister Ram Nath Thakur also took oath with him. He was re-elected to the House of Representatives from Bihar.
Upendra Kushwaha (RLM) and Shivish Kumar (BJP) also represent Bihar.
Tirash Jwala (BJP), Eugene Mohan (BJP) and Pramod Boro (UPP-L), who were sworn in, represent Assam.
Lakshmi Verma (BJP) and Phulu Devi Netam (Indian National Congress), representing Chhattisgarh, along with Karamvir Singh Buddh (Congress) and Sanjay Bhatia (BJP), representing Haryana, affirmed their loyalty to the Constitution.
The oath was taken by Abhishek Manu Sanghvi and Vem Narendra Reddy, both from the Congress and representing Telangana.
BJP’s Sujit Kumar also took oath as Rajya Sabha MP from Odisha. Anurag Sharma, a Congress member from Himachal Pradesh, was among those who took oath as Members of Parliament.
