The incident took place when an anti-opposition protest organized by the BJP under the slogan ‘Mahila Janakrosh March’ was held on Saturday afternoon near the district magistrate’s residence and effigies of SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi were burnt, eyewitnesses said.
How the BJP MLA was infected
Circle officer (city) Narayan Dutt Mishra was quoted as saying when the MLA set fire to the effigy, an explosion sound resembling firecrackers was heard. The flames quickly jumped straight towards Jaiswal’s face, causing minor injuries.
