The West Bengal government on Wednesday launched the Annapurna Yojana for Women and announced that 28.25 lakh beneficiaries will get… $3000 monthly aid in the first phase.

Inaugurating the programme, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said that 28,25,769 verified beneficiaries have been registered in the dedicated portal over the past three days through a coordinated effort involving state officials, district administrations, district development offices, municipal bodies, elected representatives and public engagement.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s assurance and the government’s dual-engine commitment ensured the promise of assistance $“3,000 were implemented,” he said.

The CM promises to list all eligible beneficiaries

The Prime Minister said that new applications will continue to be accepted and all eligible beneficiaries will be covered under the program after verification within the next three months.

“With the forms received and the verification process completed, $3000 will be transferred to the beneficiaries’ accounts. Our goal is to ensure that every eligible woman receives this benefit.”

Adhikari said the government will hold regular briefings every seven days to inform people about the number of verified beneficiaries and newly registered beneficiaries.

The Prime Minister said that the scheme is dedicated to empowering women and praised their contributions to society.

Referring to West Bengal as “the land of female icons from Rani Rashmoni to freedom fighter Matangini Hazra”, he said women played a pioneering role in spiritual, cultural and social movements.

He also thanked the officials attached to development offices, municipalities and municipal offices for their role in implementing the plan.

The Chief Minister said that the free bus travel scheme for women in the state has received an enthusiastic public response and the initiative reflects the government’s commitment towards women’s welfare.
