A 34-year-old man was murdered by his wife and her lover in Narojpur Gurjar village of Baghpat district, with the accused trying to pass off the death as a case of pesticide poisoning. Police said on Sunday that the wife was arrested while the man involved in the crime fled.
The victim, identified as Sachin Dagar, was allegedly murdered on Friday night by his wife Rachna and her lover Sonu, a resident of nearby Ranchad village. While Rachna has been arrested, Sonu is still on the run and the police are searching for him.
The wife told the husband’s family: He died due to pesticide poisoning
According to Sachin’s brother Naveen, the family received a phone call from Rachna at around 3:33 am on Saturday. She claimed that Sachin’s health deteriorated after he sprayed pesticides in the fields on Friday and his condition suddenly worsened during the night.

The family members shifted Sachin to a private hospital in Barot. Doctors there referred him to another medical facility, where he was eventually pronounced dead.
Suspicions increased after the family spotted marks around the victim’s neck during the funeral
However, suspicions arose when family members noticed marks on Sachin’s neck while preparing for his last rites. They then reviewed footage from a CCTV camera installed in a nearby house. The footage reportedly showed an unidentified man entering Sachin’s house at around 10 pm on Friday and leaving at around 3:28 am on Saturday.
Surveillance camera evidence prompted police to intensify their investigations.
Baghpat Superintendent of Police Suraj Kumar Rai said that during initial interrogation, Najah repeatedly asserted that her husband’s death was due to exposure to pesticides. However, during sustained interrogation, she allegedly confessed to conspiring with her lover to kill Sachin.

The wife, lover feeds the husband goodness mixed with poison
According to the police, Rachna revealed that Sonu brought painkiller tablets on Friday. She allegedly mixed the grains with kheer and served it to her husband. After Sachin fell asleep, she called Sonu and asked him to come home.
Investigators said Rachna deliberately left the door open to facilitate Sonu’s entry. The two allegedly strangled Sachin around midnight by pressing his face and neck with a pillow. After the murder, they stayed inside the house together for about three and a half hours before Sonu left the building.
The wife says: I met a boyfriend on Instagram… and I was not happy in the marriage
During interrogation, Rachna told the police that she met Sonu through Instagram. Their online conversations eventually led to regular phone contact and a relationship. She further alleged that she was not happy in her marriage and that her husband repeatedly assaulted her.
Police said a post-mortem examination and CCTV footage confirmed key aspects of the investigation, leading to Najah’s arrest.
“The woman killed her husband in collusion with her lover. The accused woman has been arrested and efforts are being made to trace the lover. He will be arrested soon,” SP Suraj Kumar Rai said.
The police have launched a manhunt to arrest Sonu and are continuing to investigate the case further.
