When three dead bodies were found in a car in Delhi’s Peragari, it initially appeared to be a case of suicide. Now that the police have registered a case of murder and arrested a witch doctor for it, new and shocking details have emerged in Friday’s investigation.

Kamruddin alias Baba, arrested by the Delhi Police on charges of murdering three people found in a car at Delhi’s Piragadi flyover, is being taken to Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh as part of further investigations. (ANI Video Grab)The prime accused Kamruddin alias Baba, 72, originally from Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh but currently based in Loni in Delhi-NCR, allegedly asked his clients to send pictures of women and promised them “dhanvarsh” (‘money rain’) after a genie (also, jinn or genie) contacted them.

On Sunday, February 8, the bodies of Randhir Singh, 76, Shiv Naresh Singh, 47, and Lakshmi Devi, 40, were found in their car at the Peragari flyover.

Kamruddin was arrested on Thursday and is currently in five-day police remand. During the investigation, the police said they found that Kamruddin had prepared a lethal mixture of ‘sulfas’ (aluminum phosphide, an insecticide) and sleeping pills in a soft drink, which he forced three of his followers to consume. Police are interrogating a man in Firozabad who is suspected of supplying pesticides.

Gene link through ‘tall women, long hair’Investigators say they have found several pictures of girls and women on victim Lakshmi’s phone, standing with their hair down and holding papers mentioning personal details. PTI quoted the police as saying that the pictures were circulated in the group and shared among multiple contacts.

Further, according to the police, Kamruddin promised his clients that if they paid him approx ₹2 lakh, and there was a woman in their family who matched certain physical descriptions — long, long hair — with whom a genie would “establish physical relations without the person realizing it”.

If his followers express doubts or get no results, he cites reasons such as the woman being bitten by an animal or undergoing surgery, police officials found in his interrogation and related investigations. Police also said he lured people into a trap by claiming he could perform surgery without stitches. ₹7,000 per visit.

In the Peragari murder, a “jin mantra” on a piece of paper was recovered from the pocket of the victim Shiva Naresh. Randhir and Shiv Naresh, both property dealers from Baparola village in Najafgarh, knew each other. As for Lakshmi, her family says she got in touch with a ‘godman’ because her husband was sick and she thought witchcraft might help. Naresh had contacts for Lakshmi Baba, the police found.

Kamruddin persuaded them to perform the puja and asked them to bring it ₹2 lakhs in cash, liquor and cold drinks. He consumed the poison they had prepared, fled with the cash, police said.

When the police arrived at his residence in Loni posing as a client to treat a child, he allegedly tried to escape by jumping a 15-foot wall but was later caught.

Not just a case, but a paradeFather Kamruddin was not the only three killed in Piragari, police said.

He is now being linked to six murder cases across Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi, while police suspect his role in two more murders, PTI reported.

Locals around him feared him as he would threaten people during disputes and throw suspicious objects outside their houses to scare them. The police have also widened the probe into his financial dealings and communications. His properties, including plots in Firozabad and a marriage hall, may be attached in the probe.

Police are also examining similarities between these cases, such as the use of poisoned laddus or drinks.
