Under the initiative titled ‘Bhashini Rajyam – Bhashini Sahayogi Programme’, the partnership aims to integrate the Bhashini platform, India’s national language digital public infrastructure, across various digital platforms and services of the AYUSH ministry, an official statement said.

The Ministry of AYUSH, through the AYUSH GRID initiative, works in the areas of healthcare, capacity building, research, drug administration and related sectors. It is proposed to make various AI-enabled portals, applications and solutions developed under Ayush Grid available in all the 22 prescribed languages recognized under the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution to ensure wider accessibility and awareness.

This collaboration will integrate India BHASHINI’s digital technologies across Ayush’s digital solutions, including Ayush Grid portals, apps and AI tools, to enhance multilingual accessibility and expand digital outreach across the country, the statement said.

Focused efforts will also be made to develop domain-specific multilingual terminology systems, enhance AYUSH language datasets, and build contextual AI models for healthcare and health communication related to Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Yoga and Naturopathy, Swa Rigpa and Homeopathy.

The MoU was formally signed by Dr. Subodh Kumar, Director, Ministry of AYUSH, and Amitabh Nag, CEO, Digital India Division, BHASHINI.

Highlighting the importance of making AYUSH knowledge accessible in every Indian language, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH said, “AYUSH systems of medicine carry immense cultural knowledge and cultural depth. Ensuring that this knowledge is accessible in every Indian language is essential for comprehensive healthcare delivery and public awareness.”

“Through this collaboration with BHASHINI, we aim to enhance multilingual capabilities across the Ayush ecosystem, develop robust domain-specific terminology, and build future-ready AI systems that can seamlessly support citizens across linguistic boundaries.”

Dr. Kavita Jain, Joint Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, underlined the transformative potential of multilingual AI technologies in improving accessibility to healthcare at the grassroots level, and said the ministry has consistently focused on leveraging digital technologies to improve accessibility and service delivery.

She said that this cooperation represents an important step towards more comprehensive and citizen-centric digital healthcare systems.

“Linguistic-inclusive AI systems are essential to ensure equitable access to digital public services. Through this collaboration with the Ministry of AYUSH, we aim to build multilingual, voice-enabled healthcare systems capable of supporting citizens in their preferred languages while advancing the vision of a greater digital public infrastructure in India,” Nag said.

The Yoga portal and Ayush Grid’s main portal, MAISP, have already integrated a version of the BHASHINI plugin and have received encouraging feedback from users across the country in their local languages, said Ayush Grid OSD, Naman Goyal.

He added that after signing the MoU, all portals under the Ayush Grid ecosystem will be integrated into BHASHINI, enabling Ayush services to reach people in all regions of the country by transcending language barriers.

The discussions also explored opportunities to leverage the NAMASTE portal, India’s digital repository of standardized AYUSH terminology, to build the glossary and develop a future multilingual AI model for the healthcare sector.
