West Bengal will vote in two phases on April 23 and 29, while Tamil Nadu will go to the polls on April 23. The vote counting is scheduled for May 4. In West Bengal, the election campaign intensified into a direct contest between the ruling Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Earlier, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accused the TMC of spreading misinformation about food restrictions, while Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee responded by calling the BJP a “Bangla Birudi” and vowed to protect the state’s identity and inclusive ethos.
