Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen KT Parnaik on Saturday stressed the need to strengthen border road infrastructure in the state, saying strategic roads are vital lifelines for national security and welfare of border communities.

During a meeting with Director General Border Roads Lt Gen Harpal Singh here at Lok Bhavan, the Governor said any delay or substandard execution affects direct connectivity, emergency response and daily life of people in remote and difficult terrains.

The two discussed in detail the progress of border road projects and their role in accelerating socio-economic development and improving living standards in remote and border areas, an official statement said.

DGBR apprised the Governor about future plans related to alignment of Frontier Highway and other sensitive roads, which are being taken up on priority basis.

The governor lauded the high-quality roads built by the Border Roads Organization, noting that improved connectivity has transformed border villages by enabling better access to education, healthcare, markets and livelihood opportunities.

He said increased mobility has boosted economic activity, strengthened social cohesion and strengthened the national presence in remote areas of the northeastern state.

Parnaik added that the improved road network is giving a strong impetus to the Centre’s Vibrant Villages program by turning border settlements into hubs of growth, resilience and opportunity.

The governor also lauded the BRO for its goodwill initiatives, including organizing medical camps for workers, setting up play and education rooms for workers’ children, and conducting river cleaning drives reflecting its commitment to social responsibility, along with infrastructure development.

Singh assured Parnaik that BRO is fully committed to deliver the best for Arunachal Pradesh with continued focus on connectivity, welfare and overall development of the people of the border state.
