Heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is likely to continue across Delhi and the NCR on Friday, July 10, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue an orange alert for Delhi, Ghaziabad and Faridabad. Noida and Gurugram remain under yellow alert for heavy rain.

The weather warning comes after heavy rains during most of Thursday disrupted normal life across the region, causing widespread waterlogging, traffic congestion and delays in many areas.
With rain expected to continue, many parents and students are seeking clarity on whether schools, colleges and offices will remain open on July 10.
Are schools closed in Delhi NCR?
Among the major cities in the National Capital Region, schools were ordered closed in Ghaziabad due to extremely heavy rainfall.
The district administration declared a holiday on July 10 for all schools from nursery to class XII and issued official orders in this regard.
However, no such holiday has been announced in Delhi, Noida (Gautam Budh Nagar), Gurugram or Faridabad. Schools and colleges in these areas are expected to operate as usual unless new directives are issued by local authorities.
Students and parents have been advised to monitor their institutions’ official communication channels, including websites, WhatsApp groups and SMS alerts, for any last-minute updates.
There are no tips for working from home
There has been no official announcement of work from home or office closure announcement for either government or private offices across Delhi-NCR.
Employees are advised to stay in touch with their organizations for any company instructions, especially if weather conditions worsen and impact mobility.
Rains wreak havoc in Noida and Ghaziabad
Heavy rains on Thursday disrupted normal life in Noida and neighboring Ghaziabad, with several areas reporting severe waterlogging and traffic jams.
In Ghaziabad, a three-year-old girl drowned after being swept into a water-filled drain outside her house in Sarvodaya Colony under Vijay Nagar police station limits, news agency PTI reported.
Noida also witnessed widespread flooding, with knee-level water reported in many areas. Vehicles broke down on flooded roads, leading to long traffic jams in parts of the city.
The transport department office in Sector 33 in Noida was submerged in rainwater. Similar floods were reported from Civil Lines Police Station and Mahila Thana in Prayagraj.
IMD warns of more rain and thunderstorms
The Meteorological Department warned residents in areas under the orange and red alert to remain vigilant, warning that heavy rainfall could lead to waterlogging, localized flooding, reduced visibility and traffic disruption.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely to occur in several parts of the region, the IMD said, urging people to take precautions while travelling.
