Severe heatwave conditions are likely to affect 30 mandals across districts like Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Alluri Sitarama Raju and Polavaram, while heatwave conditions are expected to affect 55 mandals across multiple districts.

“Intense heatwave and heatwaves are likely to prevail in several mandals across the state on Friday,” Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority managing director Prakhar Jain said in a statement.

He said maximum temperatures are likely to range between 43 degrees Celsius and 44.5 degrees Celsius in Parvathipuram Manyam, Palnadu, Prakasam, Markapuram, Nellore and Rayalaseema districts.

He added that heat wave is expected in 55 mandals across Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Manyam, Polavaram, Anakapally, Kakinada, East Godavari, Eluru, NTR, Palnadu, Markapuram, Nandyal and Sri Sathya Sai.

On Thursday, a maximum temperature of 45.1 degrees Celsius was recorded at Sangamala in Nandyal district, while temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius were recorded in 215 mandals, Jain said.

Other high temperatures were recorded at 44.9 degrees Celsius at Ontemita in Kadapa district, 44.2 degrees Celsius at Anumalapalli in Markkapuram district, 43.5 degrees Celsius at Modigopa in Sri Sathya Sai district, 43.4 degrees Celsius at Tirananapalli in Anantapur district and Varadayapalem in Tirupati district.

Temperatures also reached 43.2 degrees Celsius in Bastibadu in Kurnool district, 42.1 degrees Celsius in Nolividu in Annamaya district and Goragala in Palnadu district, and 42 degrees Celsius in Kumbabadu in Nellore district.

He said that Saturday is likely to witness severe heatwave conditions in three mandals and heatwave conditions in 28 mandals.

The SDMA advised people to take necessary precautions, avoid prolonged exposure to heat, and stay hydrated by consuming water, lemon water, yoghurt and coconut water.
