Another woman died due to post-partum complications at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital in Jodhpur on Sunday, the latest in a series of maternal deaths in Rajasthan.
The woman, identified as Samu, underwent a normal delivery at Tinwari Hospital near Jodhpur on June 24 before she suffered postpartum hemorrhage, officials said. She was transferred to Umaid Hospital (Jodhpur), where she continued to bleed, prompting doctors to remove her uterus.
As her condition deteriorated, she was transferred to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital on June 27, where she remained on a ventilator and underwent dialysis. Her condition worsened on July 14, and she died five days later.

A woman died due to postpartum complications
Dr Fateh Singh, superintendent of Mahatma Gandhi Hospital, said the woman suffered hypovolemic shock due to excessive blood loss after childbirth, which severely affected blood circulation in her vital organs. “She gave birth naturally at Tinwari Hospital and gave birth to a baby girl. Since the bleeding from her uterus did not stop, she was referred to Jodhpur. When the bleeding could not be controlled, her uterus was removed at Umaid Hospital. Her condition did not improve.”
The latest death came amid growing concern about a series of maternal deaths. Two women who were referred from Bhopalgarh to Umaid Hospital on June 28 and July 2 died due to post-partum complications, including heavy bleeding.
Other women who suffered post-delivery complications are still being admitted to Jodhpur’s two main maternity hospitals. Hospital authorities said that seven women were in critical condition. Five of them are undergoing intensive treatment at Al-Ameed Hospital. Two others were admitted to the intensive care unit at Mahatma Gandhi Hospital. Three of the seven were diagnosed with acute kidney infections.
