Severe heat waves in 11 mandals and heat waves in 64 mandals are likely on Saturday, though temperatures are expected to dip slightly from Sunday, said Prakhar Jain, director general of Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority.

He said in an official press release: “Variable weather conditions, including extreme heat and rain accompanied by lightning, are likely to continue in the state for another two days. Temperatures are likely to drop slightly from Sunday.”

According to forecasts, maximum temperatures are expected to range between 45 and 46 degrees Celsius in parts of Polavaram district and Kakinada, Eluru and Krishna districts.

In parts of Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram Manyam, Anakapalli, Konasema, East Godavari, West Godavari, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu, Markapuram and Prakasam, the maximum temperature is expected to range between 43-44 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures of 40-42 degrees Celsius are expected to prevail in parts of Srikakulam, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Visakhapatnam, Nellore, Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, YSR Kadapa, Annamaya, Chittoor and Tirupati districts.

Meanwhile, a cyclonic circulation continues over the southwestern Bay of Bengal and adjoining Tamil Nadu coast, which is likely to bring light to moderate rain accompanied by lightning in Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai, YSR Kadapa, Annamaya and Chittoor districts on Saturday and Sunday.

Scattered light rain accompanied by lightning is also likely in the rest of the districts, which will create contrasting weather conditions across the state.

The maximum temperature in the state on Friday reached 45 degrees Celsius at Kumbaddu in Nellore district, followed by 44.6 degrees Celsius at Devarapalli in Anakapally district and 43.9 degrees Celsius at Bhamini in Parvathipuram Manyam district and Rajam in Vizianagaram district.

Temperatures crossed 42 degrees Celsius in 51 mandals spread across 10 districts, Jain said.

It advised citizens not to stand under trees, electricity poles, or billboards during thunderstorms, while urging farmers and livestock breeders to move to safe places immediately after hearing the sound of thunder or when the sky becomes cloudy.

The authority also asked people to remain alert amid the high temperatures, postpone travel between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., and carry drinking water while going outdoors.

Senior citizens, pregnant women, lactating mothers and people suffering from heart disease, diabetes and blood pressure are advised to take extra precautions and consume adequate amount of lemon water, yoghurt, coconut water and drinking water.
