During Zero Hour, Chaturvedi highlighted the issue of NCERT textbook containing a chapter on ‘Corruption in Judiciary’ for which the Chief Justice of India had given directions and NCERT had issued an apology in the matter.

“On March 11, with all due respect to the Supreme Court of India, our judicial process and our judiciary, the ICC-led bench once again said that the academics who wrote this chapter, should have no role in matters relating to academics, publicly funded institutions, government institutions… which I believe is judicial overreach and judicial dictatorship,” she said.

It claimed that the court’s further directions regarding taking action against those who criticize the judiciary on social media amount to “judicial overreach”.

“I believe that our three branches of government should be equal in law, they should be accountable, they should be open to scrutiny,” she said. “Any imbalance in that, or any kind of superiority in that, will lead to a problematic situation that the nation will have to deal with.”

“I request the law minister to ensure that there is no such judicial dictatorship or judicial bypass which can create problems in the times to come,” the Rajya Sabha MP said.

She said that one can understand the judiciary’s anger at being targeted in a corruption case, but everyone must be held accountable before the law and treated equally.

She stressed that the impeachment notice of the Supreme Court judge was pending before Parliament where a huge sum of cash was recovered from his residence, but it was only transferred and no action was taken.

Chaturvedi said if an allegation of corruption is made against a politician or an officer, action is taken and a proper investigation is conducted into the charges, but in this case there was no such thing.
