The parents of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijit Debaki broke down in front of the camera as news of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation emerged on Saturday. In her interaction with the media, Debaki’s mother praised her son’s “overwhelming victory” and said that she was suffering from insomnia because of her worry about him.
“He had to sleep among mosquitoes… and was diagnosed with typhoid,” said an emotional Anita Debke, adding that she could not sleep until three o’clock at night due to worry about her son. Debaki’s father also became emotional. Follow live updates here.
Earlier in the day, DeBakey said he had been diagnosed with typhoid, but vowed his illness would not slow him down. The CJP has been leading a major student protest in Delhi since last month. The main demand of this agitation was the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan.
However, with Pradhan’s resignation and the government accepting all other demands of Debaki’s party, the CJP ended its protest.
“I feel very happy today”
Anita Deepki, Abhijeet’s mother, said she was “very happy” now that Pradhan has tendered his resignation. She told the news agency, “I feel very happy today. It was a wonderful day. I am very happy. He (Abhijeet) finally got the reward for his sincere efforts… He was determined, and kept saying that his request must be fulfilled…”. that I.
She also said that the family was initially worried because Abhijeet was alone, but felt some relief after dozens of students joined his cause at the protest site.
“Our son was alone there, even though there were many other students with him,” Anita said. “As parents, we were afraid… When he was slapped in Jaipur, it hurt us deeply. We could not sleep that night… We plan to welcome him by distributing sweets and celebrating together…” Anita said.
Abhijit Debaki was manhandled during his visit to Jaipur last month. As he was being carried on the shoulders of supporters, some miscreants in the crowd pulled his scarf, slapped him several times and tried to drag him to the ground.
Moreover, ink was thrown at him during the Jantar Mantar protest last week.

The CJP called off its protest today, hours after Dharmendra Pradhan resigned. The announcement was made during a joint CJP-Centre press conference held by union ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh, and CJP spokespersons Sourav Das and Ashutosh Ranka.
The government also agreed to withdraw all cases brought by police against protesters. In today’s joint press conference, JP Nadda said that a copy of the FIRs filed so far will be provided to the CJP and no action will be taken. “We all said that there will be compensation as per the rules and regulations, and maximum possible will be given to them,” Nadda said.
CJP protests grew after climate activist Sonam Wangchuk began an indefinite hunger strike that ended after 26 days. The protesters were demanding Pradhan’s resignation over leakage of NEET papers and other alleged irregularities in the exams.
