New Delhi: Prime Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday strongly criticized the financial record of the previous Aam Aadmi Party government, accusing it of leaving Delhi at a huge loss. $47,000 Crores Debt Burden.

Addressing the General Assembly on the last day of the budget session, Gupta said that her government inherited debts, of which $Rs 27,547 crore is still outstanding. “We are now working to manage obligations while ensuring transparency,” she said.

On Tuesday, Gupta A $A budget of Rs 1,03,700 crore for 2026-27, with focus on infrastructure, health, education, green initiatives and social welfare. The budget was approved by the Delhi Assembly on Friday.

Gupta said Delhi is entering a new phase driven by results and not “excuses”. She added: “This is a new government with a new style of work. The focus will be on implementation.”

Describing the budget as development-oriented, she said it represents the highest capital spending to date and aims to make an impact on the ground beyond social welfare plans.

Targeting the opposition, Gupta accused AAP members of disrupting the proceedings. “They had a full opportunity to speak inside the House but chose to sit on the streets instead,” she said, alleging that misleading issues were raised due to a lack of substantive arguments.

Regarding loans, Gupta said that her government borrowed only 1.17% against the 3% allowed from the General Development Plan at an interest rate of 7.4%.

She alleged financial mismanagement, noting losses amounting to $99,000 Crore in DTC and $Rs 91,000 crore deficit in Delhi Jal Board, coupled with bloated bills.

Regarding the reforms, she said that a CM Pragati portal has been launched to track projects. Key initiatives include a $A Rs 5,000-crore elevated road along the Munak Canal, expansion of the metro, push for electric vehicles, and declaration of 4,200 hectares of hill land as forests.

“Every rupee will be accounted for, every pending project will be completed,” she said, adding that Delhi would now witness a “transformation and not a confrontation.”

Referring to global challenges, Gupta said that the center is working to ensure stable fuel supplies and protect citizens from additional financial burdens.
