The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has denied reports of an updated Aadhaar card with a new look.
The clarification from the government came after several reports and social media posts claimed that the new Aadhaar card will contain only the user’s photo and a QR code. Reports claimed that the changes were made to prevent identity theft and data leakage.
The ministry said that such reports and posts on social media are incorrect and aim to create unwanted confusion in people’s minds.

“We generally advise people to ignore such reports and social media posts and refer to official communications from UIDAI through its official social media handles and press releases issued through PIB,” the government statement said.
The Aadhaar card usually contains the user’s photo along with his or her name, address and date of birth. It also contains other details like your Aadhaar number and QR to authenticate user details.
Rumors and allegations about Aadhaar card often spread on social media and the internet without any factual basis. The government and the official are approaching UIDAI time and again to verify the veracity of the claim and share factual information about the Aadhaar changes.

The UIDAI recently clarified that while Aadhaar is widely accepted as proof of identity, it does not serve as valid proof of date of birth.

In a detailed clarification document, the UIDAI pointed out that the Aadhaar Act, 2016 “did not address its acceptance as proof of date of birth”.
“They have clarified that the Aadhaar number can be used to identify the individual being authenticated, but it is not in itself proof of date of birth,” the post added.
