A 40-year-old tribal woman was gang-raped after a group of men broke into her house during a suspected robbery attempt in Madhya Pradesh’s Alirajpur district.

PTI reported that the incident occurred on Friday night in a village located within the limits of Puri police station, when five to six men entered the woman’s house and two of them raped her before fleeing with valuables.
“Wooden objects inserted into sensitive parts”
Police and local leaders said the woman was seriously injured and was later transferred to a hospital in Indore where she underwent surgery.
“Preliminary investigation indicates that a wooden object was inserted into her private parts,” Alirajpur Superintendent of Police Raghuvansh Kumar Singh told PTI.
He said that doctors confirmed that there were injuries to the woman’s reproductive organs. While police recovered evidence from the crime scene, officials refused to reveal details while the investigation is still ongoing.
Investigators suspect that the intruders entered the house with the intention of committing theft.
Escape with silver jewelry
Police said the intruders fled the house after stealing silver jewelry and a mobile phone. Investigators believe the crime may have started as an attempted robbery, although they are continuing to examine all possible motives behind the attack.
“Prima facie, it appears that the individuals entered the house with the intention of committing theft, though all angles are being investigated,” Singh said.
The police formed teams and launched a manhunt to track down the accused. Searches are underway in nearby villages and surrounding areas, while investigators are also examining evidence recovered from the crime scene to identify and arrest those involved.
Congress is seeking an investigation into SIT
The incident sparked a political dispute, as the opposition Congress demanded the formation of a special investigation team into the case.
Congress MLA from Jhabua and party’s tribal wing chief Vikrant Boria visited the woman at an Indore hospital. He said, quoting doctors, that she underwent a successful surgery.
Boria claimed that about eight masked men were involved in the crime and described the incident as “shameful.”
He said the case raises serious concerns about the safety of women and tribal communities in the state. The Congress leader urged state Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to order a special probe and ensure that the accused get the toughest punishment.
He also requested financial assistance for the survivor, noting that she had already lost her husband.
