Nationalist Congress Party (SP) leader Supriya Sule said on Saturday that her car was hit by a car while traveling from Pune to Mumbai, adding that she and others traveling with her were unhurt.
The Baramati Lok Sabha MP was on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway when the accident occurred.

In a post on website She added that everyone in her car was safe after the accident.
“While traveling from Pune to Mumbai today, I had a terrible experience on the highway when car GJ13CF5257 hit my car from the side due to rash driving. Fortunately, everyone is safe,” she wrote.
She added that the accident was a strong reminder that excessive speed and reckless driving can put people’s lives in danger. Sule also urged people to wear seat belts, be careful on the roads and drive responsibly to help keep highways safe.
Cases of reckless driving are on the rise
It is worth noting that reckless driving incidents have increased throughout the country. According to the report ‘Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India 2024’ released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) on Wednesday, most road accidents in 2024, about 61.2%, were related to speeding. The report said that 101,649 people were killed and 283,162 people were injured in such accidents.
Dangerous or reckless driving and unsafe overtaking were responsible for 26% of road accidents, resulting in 46,132 deaths and 1,12,504 injuries, as mentioned in an earlier HT report.
The report added that motorcyclists and pedestrians remain the most vulnerable to danger on Indian roads. Together they accounted for 63% of all road traffic deaths in 2024. The findings match data released by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in recent years.
Two-wheelers recorded the highest number of road deaths in the country at 84,599, accounting for 48.3% of all road deaths. Injuries among motorcycle users amounted to 2,23,652, which constitutes 49.9% of the total number of road accident injuries.
