The deceased, identified as Tamradwaj Sahu, a resident of Mahasamund district, was found hanging from a tree near Panjari Ghat under Geedam police station limits on Friday, officials said.

Sahu worked as a truck driver owned by Laxman. Laxman informed police on Friday that Sahu had uploaded videos on Instagram claiming that he was going to end his life, and had stopped answering phone calls, a police official said.

He added that the police team launched a search operation using the driver’s mobile phone location and later recovered his body hanging from a tree in a forest near Panjari Ghat.

The truck driven by Sahu collided with a Mercedes car on Thursday at Panjari Ghat, the official said. He added that an emergency vehicle arrived at the scene following the accident.

Sahu released six separate videos on social media before his death. He was seen crying and claiming that the accident occurred after the truck’s brakes failed. He claimed that the occupants of the luxury car assaulted him and threatened to kill him after the accident.

Sahu also apologized to his employer Laxman, saying that the accident was not intentional and that he ended his life because he was beaten and threatened by the occupants of the car.

In another video, he appeared with a noose around his neck and said: “Forgive me, I was not able to carry out my responsibilities.”

An investigation is underway, a senior police official said, adding that a case will be registered against the deceased truck driver due to the collision, while a separate FIR will be registered against the vehicle driver and its occupants based on the allegations made in the videos related to the alleged assault.

The owner of the Mercedes, identified as Sagar Hemla, is a resident of Bijapur district and works as a contractor, the official said, adding that he will be summoned for questioning.

Police said further action will be taken based on the investigation.
